  • This reading comes from Rubem Alves’ book, Tender Returns. I read this with the expressed permission from the translator of the book, Glenn Alan Cheney. I am grateful for the honor!

  1. Dear Todd: How holy were your words on friendship. It is a lonely time for me. I think of the fact that our group (stewards of the mystery) were to be convening today. Instead, we are in our own homes and perhaps in isolation. I have my beloved mate and my precious cat–but I mourn the loss of community with others. I thank you for reminding me of my BEST friend–Jesus!

    1. Hello Kay! Thank you for taking the time to write a note. I am sorry for your loneliness during this time, my friend. I’m really missing my community at FUMC and other communities I’m a part of as well. One day soon…I send my love, good soul!

    1. I am so pleased for your affirmation, Glenn. So pleased. I wish I could have met Rubem. As I read the book it felt as though I found a real kindred spirit! Give my warmest regards to his daughter, please. Be well- Todd
